Welcoming new employees

The interview and recruitment is just the  beginning of the long road that you chose with your employees. The foremost and one of the significant part lies next by welcoming them in an apt and proper way.

Welcoming the new employees and making them feel comfortable is very important before you start working with them. You may belong to the higher hierarchy, but making the new joiners feel comfortable is one big responsibility. The more you can make them feel belonged , the more they are going to work hard for you without any preconceived grievances. There are a few ways in which Human Resources and the hiring  managers can make an employee feel comfortable and at ease.

Welcome email

Start with a welcome email. After the selection procedure is over and before the newly hired joins the office, you can draft a beautiful yet professional way to welcome them onboard. Draft a email congratulating them with their achievement. Give them a small introduction of the company and a detailed briefing of their job designation. You can show in words your eagerness to work with them. This will make them feel valued.

Make them feel at ease

Do not ambush them with responsibilities on the very first day. Give them a little easing time to understand the work space better. They are there to work. But making them start at the very first day can make them overwhelmed and conscious.

Arrange a introductory meeting

Go a step ahead and arrange for an introductory meeting of the newly hired with the other employees. Introduce them to everyone and make them feel belonged. Easing up is more important in the first few days for an employee than to prove his skills. Skills won't disappear, but inundation can diminish their skill to a great extent.

Set up training on the first day

Arrange for training on the first day. This will help them get a fair idea of their work designation. Although they might know for what purpose and post they have joined the organization, but practical explanation can make them grasp everything more quickly and more significantly.

Make sure they have everything they need

Employees need to feel comfortable at their desk. To start with building a good rapport with them, you need to arrange for everything they might need in their desk. From a pin to a pen, make everything available to them so that they don't feel embarrassed to ask for simpler and smaller things from people they don't know closely yet.

Stay patient and available

Adapting to a new environment takes time. Make yourself available for them. Don't hesitate to reach out in  case they  need guidance. Be patient and listen to their problems  if there are any.

Arrange team meetings

Arrange for team meetings and ask her colleagues to make her feel at ease. These team meetings can be informal and just a way to amalgamate the new employees with the old ones. Ask the existing employees to help the freshers with their assignments and help them to establish themselves with the organization.

Assign them a mentor

Assign them a mentor in case they feel inundated with you. Ask the mentor to guide her through the work protocols. Let the mentor tone down their apprehensions by being their go to person.

Show appreciation

Show them appreciation, even if they make errors and falters at times. Tell them its ok to commit errors than to shout and yell at their incompetency. No one is perfect. They have been hired because they have the potential in them. Trust your instincts and make them absorb themselves more towards perfection. Showing appreciation is going to enhance the driving force behind their excellence in the future.

Employees are no less than assets to any organization. Knowledgeable and skilled employees are uncompromising. As an employer or the recruiter, the duty lies with you to help them dissolve with your organization and build a relationship that will only strengthen in the near future.

You need to keep in mind that the employee might be in dire need for the job he or she has joined to, but you are no less in need of good, dedicated, hard working and skilled employees too. Welcome them amicably and build a relationship that will grow beyond the threat of falling apart!
